China Pushes US to Solve Mysterious LA Shooting
The mystery of a deadly shooting outside the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles has reached more than 6,000 miles away to Beijing, where the Chinese government said today that the U.S. law enforcement had better solve the case quickly.
Today Geng Shuang, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said China “takes this incident seriously and has already made serious representations with the United States.”
“China requires the United States to solve the case as soon as possible and take concrete and effective measures to ensure the security of the Chinese diplomatic missions, institutes and personnel in the United States,” the spokesperson said, according to the ministry’s website.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said the gunman was a Chinese national and fired multiple rounds at the consulate building before turning the gun on himself, according to The Associated Press. No one else was injured in the incident.
An LAPD official told Code and Dagger today the investigation is ongoing and no information, including the individual's name, is being released at this time.
